In August of 2006, Ames Construction awarded PDM Bridge the 29th Street Midtown Greenway / Phase 4 Cable Stayed Bridge over Hiawatha Ave located in Hennepin Co. Minnesota. (AKA Martin Olav Sabo Bridge).

Cable Stays

This 2200 foot long bridge has a main clear span of 220 feet and will serve the Midtown Greenway, a cross-town bicycle expressway, over the busy Hiawatha Avenue and light rail lines.

The bridge is named after Martin Sabo who served in the US House of Representatives for Minnesota from 1978 – 2007 and was instrumental in supporting highway and transportation projects in Minnesota and nation wide.

This project was unique in the fact that the tower was wrapped in curved stainless steel panel.

Interesting Facts:

  • PDM Bridge supplied and fabricated 67,000 lbs of steel
  • The “I” shaped tower is 110 feet high and contains 18 pipe anchorages.
  • 60 stainless steel panels and 18 cable anchors were also supplied.
